The George K. Gannam Post 184, its officers and over 500 members welcome you to browse this website and to come see us in Thunderbolt, Georgia, an historic fishing village on the Wilmington River, in the Metropolitan area of Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.

The Post is named in honor of SSG George K. Gannam, U.S. Army Air Corps, the first Savannahian killed in the sunrise Sunday attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, cut down by strafing fire as he raced to protect the aircraft in the hangars at Hickham Field.

Since being chartered in 1946, Georgia Post 184 has been welcoming veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces. We continue to open our doors and our hearts to warmly welcome all military personnel who have served or are still serving our great country. Joining our Post would enable you to continue serving your God, Country and Community. Our mission is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families embodied in The American Legion preamble below.

We also welcome participation of non-veteran civilians (we love civilians, too -- after all, our mother was one). Patriotic citizens of Thunderbolt and surrounding area of Savannah and Chatham County may join our Post 184 as a Booster or Sponsor. (click Sponsor or Booster Button for details). 100% of the monies raised are given back to the community by program activities, including educational scholarships; giving aid and assistance to local needy Veterans and their families, and other worthy projects. Help us to continue community programs and projects for our veterans.
